WITNESS OF CARING
A few years ago in Thailand, a Fulbright scholarship was awarded to a bright young Buddhist from a remote, poverty-stricken village in northeastern Thailand. Had it not been for the scholarship, this boy would have ended his education in the sixth grade and today would probably have been tending water buffalo. Instead, he was sent to the Prince Royal College, a church- sponsored boys’ school in Chiengmai, Thailand, and for the first time in his life, had enough to eat. One night shortly after he arrived at the Prince Royal School, friends found him crying. They asked him why. He told them it was because he had enough to eat while his family back home did not, and he felt bad because he had so much. His friends at the school, all Christians, passed the hat the next day and immediately sent a large sack of rice to the boy’s family. The boy was dumfounded. How could these Christians care about…
