PARENTAL GOLD COINS
From the book In the Company of Men, by Marvin Allen comes a great description of what happens when a father invests love in his children. He equates “usable love” with “gold coins” that the father gives the child. It is as if the father takes a coin from his big pocket and puts it into his child’s little pocket. When the father tucks his child into bed, takes the child to the store, plays ball or goes fishing with the child, takes the time to read to his child – as the child grows, to take the time to help with his child’s car or computer or checkbook balance, he is depositing more emotional gold coins of usable love. When the child becomes a parent, there will be a pocketful of gold coins to deposit into the tiny pockets of these new sons and daughters. Adapted from In the Company of Men, by Marvin Allen
