A GRATEFUL TITHER
Going was tough. Ted, an unemployed apprentice plumber, scrambled for any work he could find in addition to serving as part-time church custodian. His wife, dedicated to raising their children at home, contributed whatever and however she could. They gratefully received every gesture of help offered. Our deacons agreed to offer help through their benevolence fund. I learned a lesson in thanksgiving the next week when our treasurer approached me. “If only everyone was as grateful as Ted and Kathy for God’s provision, our church would not have financial trouble! I know you don’t like to know who gives what, but I thought you’d be encouraged by this.
