HABITAT FOR HUMANITY PROTECTED
In August, 1992, Hurricane Andrew destroyed thousands of houses built by professional builders, but all 27 south Florida homes built by volunteers of Habitat for Humanity survived. Some of the homes built by Habitat, a Georgia-based, non-profit Christian group that builds low-cost houses for the needy, were in the hardest-hit areas of Perrine and Homestead. “This is a six-day house — built in six days — and look at it; still standing.
