SHAPING THE CRUST — SHAPING THE CHILD
Proverb 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Chuck Swindoll says that this verse actually refers to shaping the bent of a child like a vine keeper would shape the direction that a vine would grow on the trellis. That illustration helped me some to see the meaning of the verse because I have at times changed the direction of or guided along a creeper in my flower bed to get it to grow where I wanted the ground covered. One day, as I was baking pies, God showed me what the verse really means. I had a roll of pie dough in my hand that was to become the bottom crust of the rhubarb pie my teenage son had requested.
