REBIRTHING THE CHURCH
Here is an excerpt from Current Thoughts and Trends by Nav Press that capsulates numerous periodicals, giving a summary of what was said (kind of like a Cliff Notes of Christian Periodicals). It takes an openness to change and new ideas (and to confusion) to bring renewal to a church. Leadership is also important. The article gives the tasks of a leader: 1) Envisioning goals – seeing what the church could be. 2) Affirming values – morality will undergird renewal. 3) Motivate and inspire people. 4) Manage – keep the process purring. 5) Unify – “the ear of the leader must ring with the voices of the people.” 6) Interpret – communicate values and reaffirm direction. 7) Model – be what you want the congregation to become. 8) Innovate – “Systemic stagnation requires a redesign of strategy.” From “Rebirthing the church” by Richard B. Wilke, Circuit Rider, May 1989, pg. 20, from CTT, Nav Press
