REFUSE TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN
It seems that the congregations of a Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregational Churches in a small town had dwindled to the point of near extinction. Representatives of the three Churches got together and began discussing a merger to make a larger Church so they could hire a full time minister. However, they couldn’t decide on a name that was common to them all. Finally they came up with the one thing that they all had in common, they were all Christians, so they decided they would be called the Christian Church. Unfortunately, that didn’t set too well with one certain man who stood up at the union meeting and declared, “I won’t stand for it. I was born a Methodist. I was baptized a Methodist. I’ve worshipped as a Methodist. I even married a Methodist. I’ve been a Methodist all my life and no one is going to make a Christian out of me.” As told by Bill Posegate, a…
