SOAKING OUT THE OLD WAY
When we make that leap of faith, it’s just as if God immerses us in clean refreshing water. It’s just like soaking a porridge pot in which the oatmeal has burned–when the process first begins, nothing much moves. But after a little while in the water, the most recent stuff starts to loosen and float to the surface. And then as the soaking goes on, gradually the older, deeper stuff starts to loosen and it, too, floats to the surface and drifts away. Eventually, all the burned porridge is loosened, it comes off, and the pot is sparkling clean again. In our case, there is nothing that we need to do but stay immersed in God and allow all the built-up stuff to float away. From Becoming All We Can Be, by Jan Ord, published by Union Life
