WRONG BOOK
A young man in Decatur, Illinois, answered an ad in a magazine for a book on photography. Instead of receiving the book on photography, he got a book on ventriloquism. Although he could have sent the book back, he decided it might be worth reading. He studied, made a “dummy,” and finally became world-famous. Edgar Bergen’s dummy was Charlie McCarthy. Edgar Bergen’s daughter Candice is Murphy Brown. Illustrations For Lively Preaching by King Duncan, 1986, Seven Worlds Publications, Knoxville, TN
