RESURRECTION TODAY
A single sentence in John Claypool’s autobiography “Opening Blind Eyes” caught my attention. “I now have new reasons for believing in the Resurrection.” This seems to me to be a key element in a life of faith which retains vitality. If I do not experience fresh encounters with God’s grace, I’m left with the memories of past experiences only. In time the force of those moments is spent; I begin to idealize them. I am caught up in the press of today’s agendas. Faith becomes a matter of history. No one is sustained by an historical faith only. To that story must be added fresh encounters with the Risen One. When I encounter God’s grace in new settings, from new perspectives and with fresh power, the historical resurrection of our Lord becomes today’s headline; today’s good news!
