MAKE IT BETTER
There was once a king who owned a diamond of which he was justly proud. By accident, the costly gem sustained a deep scratch. The king was sorely grieved. He summoned his court jewelers to repair the stone, but none was able to do so. Then a wiseman stepped forward and asked to try his luck with the gem. The king consented. After a few days, the wiseman returned. He was unable to erase the scratch, but instead had etched onto the stone the image of a rose, using the scratch as the stem. The Maggid of Dubnov, 18th century, Lithuania
