PRODIGAL JUMPER
I was thinking the other day that sin is like bungy jumping. As Christians, we find ourselves at a particular spiritual elevation. This elevation differs for everyone, some higher, some lower, all are safe. Whether one faces the decision to jump from a crane with a wire cage, from a bridge, a cliff, or a hot air balloon, the place one stands is secure. You are faced with a decision, a choice. Will you sin? Or not? Within yourself a voice is saying, “yes?” Another, “no?” The argument escalates. “Yes…No…Yes…No…” You hear the shouts from below. Do it! Do it! Do it! (Interesting that the shouts are from “below”). You continue to argue within yourself, “Yes…No…Yes! Yes! Yeeeees!!! And you leap! The excitement! The exhileration! the ecstacy of the jump!
