UNCOMMON FRIENDS
I have just finished reading a fascinating book by James Newton, entitled Uncommon Friends. Newton had the opportunity to be a friend of Thomas Alva Edison, Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, Alex Carrel and Charles Lindburgh. His book is full of personal reminiscences of these unusual and highly gifted people. Here’s a couple of stories about Edison: Edison’s friends in Florida respected his need for privacy. He would go out to the end of his dock and sit and fish – but he’d fish without any bait on his line. Down there in snook country, when a man was fishing, you didn’t bother him – and, of course, with no bait, the same thing went for the fish. They didn’t bother him either.
