REAL CHANGE:
In 1973 I attended a counseling seminar in Gary, Indiana. Dr. Jay E. Adams spoke at that seminar. He began his sermon/lecture with a corny joke that drove home the thesis of his message with power. It went something like this…Question: When is a door not a door? Answer: When it is ajar! This little play on words demonstrates the message given in Ephesians 4. We put off the old man and put on the new man. The door is no longer a door when it is something else. Real change is possible only when we BECOME SOMETHING ELSE! For example, one who does not steal may still be a thief. He may just be between jobs. The thief stops being a thief when he steals no more and works with his hands so that he may give to those who are in need. The thief changes by becoming a generous person. God has never intended for us to just stop doing…
