THE GREATER GIFT
A husband and wife were getting ready to go to a memorial service for the son of a friend. Their friend’s son had been killed in the war. As a memorial to their son, his parents gave a generous gift to the church, $50,000 for a stained glass window. The woman said to her husband, “What a beautiful thing to do.” Then she turned to her husband said, “What are we going to give?” Her husband answered, “What are you talking about? We don’t need to give anything. Our son came back from the war alive.” “That’s is what I mean,” she said. “They lost a son, and they are giving a gift of thanks, a memorial to his life. We got our son back, and we don’t give anything.” From Mark Trotter of San Diego, California
