LOSS OF PARENTAL CONTROL
When my children burst into their teenage years, I became very scared. “Will they make it through the many temptations they will undoubtedly face?” I worried. “What if they lose their faith, marry an unbeliever or get raped?” My fertile mind provided me with enough imagined problems to get me thoroughly upset. My children’s adolescence loomed in front of me like a huge mountain. And when you’ve never climbed a mountain before, it can be very scary! Knowing of my concern, a friend offered me a good piece of advice: “Don’t be intimidated!” she said. “God makes the mountains and is just as able to remove them. Trust Him!” That was certainly easier said than done. I knew it did me absolutely no good to rely on my own mothering instincts or even common sense, for that matter.
