STATE FAIR SWORD LUST
I remember a time when my parents took me to the State Fair in Dallas. I was about six years old. We were like a lot of working people in those days without much money, so it was a big deal for us to spend the money to drive over to Dallas and pay to get into the fair. There were the little things we asked for like corn dogs and cotton candy that cost money. We don’t think much about spending twenty or thirty dollars to eat out when we go to the fair now. But then, we had to be thrifty. We packed a picnic lunch and ate it on the fair grounds under the trees. My folks allowed some money for my brother and me to ride the Tilt-a-Whirl and the roller coaster and the Monorail (remember that?) and play a few games.
