INSIDE OR OUT
The Peace Corp used a wonderful ad with a partially filled glass of water, and asked the question, “Is this glass half empty or half full?” Suggesting a perspective can help persuade people to see things differently, and take a course of action you would like them to. One mother did it this way: A young woman left her 4-year-old in the house while she ran to put something in the trash. When she returned to the house, her little boy had locked the door. She started to ask him to open the door, but she knew he was at the age where he was saying, “No!” to everything. She knew that she was in for a test of wills that might last for hours. Then inspiration hit: she said to him, “Oh, too bad. You just locked yourself in the house.” The door came open immediately.
