HOW DID YOU DO IT?
The 2000 Olympics are rich with motivational and inspirational stories. The best of these is about a nineteen-year-old Texan, Laura Wilkinson. The event is the ten meter platform diving competition. After the first two rounds, Laura is dead last, eighth out of eight competitors. She is the USA champion in this event but is trailing far behind the Chinese and Canadian divers. She had every reason to be trailing because she is competing with a broken foot, which is obviously painful and wrapped for these eight dives. Also she had to compete without any pain-killer types of drugs to help with the pain. She was toughing it out like the champion she was. The turn-around happened on her third dive…she smiled broadly to all who were watching and dived. It was fabulous! She scored 9.0 and 8.5s and moved up in the standings to fourth.
