EASTER AND JOY
John Van Der Hoeven, former overseer of the Garden Tomb in Jerusalem, the traditional site of Jesus’ death and resurrection, once told of a young skeptic who heard John’s proclamation of what the site commemorates. The preacher had just declared the fullness of the forgiveness of sin, pointing to Golgotha — the traditional site of the crucifixion just east of the Garden — then he pointed to the empty Tomb from which Jesus had risen and lives forevermore. The vagabond youth, who was circling the earth in search of reality, listened spellbound. Then, as John concluded, the boy called out from the crowd: “Mister, if what you say is true, there should be singing and dancing for joy at this site every day of the year!”
