PROUD AS A PEACOCK
Claude had a very good friend, Xavier Noonan, whose father had a hobby collecting beautiful, rare birds. One day the two boys were in Mr. Noonan’s aviary. “See that peacock,” Xavier motioned. “There are many beautiful birds in my father’s collection, but the peacock is the only bird that seems to be proud. See him spreading out his tail.” “He’s a real showoff, isn’t he?” remarked Claude. “Pride is for the birds,” laughed Xavier. On the way home from Xavier’s, Claude stopped in the church for a visit with our Lord. He thought of the proud peacock. Then he thought of the humility of Jesus. “Thank you, Jesus, for becoming so small for us,” he prayed. “Thank you, too, for washing the feet of the Apostles to teach us to humbly serve others.” Then he thought of Mary in her home at Nazareth praying to be a humble servant of the Lord.
