THE SANTA RIOT
Sometimes we fear that our world is losing its goodwill even at Christmas time. According to a news story in the early 1990s, a little boy in Chicago approached a street Santa, gave his beard a good yank, and let it snap smartly back into place. Santa retaliated by taking a shot at the boy with his bell. The kid ducked, and Santa hit another boy in the head by mistake! The father of the second boy promptly slugged Santa with a vicious right. A policeman was coming around the corner at the very moment the infuriated father flattened Santa. The policeman hit the father with his nightstick. When peace on earth had been restored, Santa was in jail and two other people were in the hospital! Peace on earth and goodwill toward men may take a while at this rate.
