CHRIST WAS BORN IN A HEART
In 1930 crops wilted in intense heat and dry, parched ground. Unemployment was a plight that seriously and severely affected our once seemingly secure family life. Very few crops survived the famine, and unemployment depleted our monetary resources. Although we had no money, the family began preparation for a Christmas celebration of the Christ child. Wool from the goats and sheep on our farm had been cleaned, dried and woven into coarse thread. Then the thread was soaked in the juice of wild berries that had survived the summer drouth and were later revived by the late fall rains that came too late for the tender crops. Next the thread was woven into cloth from which two warm coats were made for Mom and Dad. Gloves and socks were made for each member of the family.
