EXCELLENCE IN COMMUNITY
I recently started reading Psychiatrist Scott Peck’s newest book, The Different Drum, a powerful book on community. One of the most vital things that can happen to you and to me as Christians is to develop authentic community. Community is a close group of people who know you, who surround you, who meet together regularly, who provide a check on your life, who hold you responsible, who encourage you, who love you, who rejoice with you, who weep with you, who provide an environment in which you can be safe enough to weep and celebrate and be your authentic self. This is developed in depth by Peck. Our community may be something of a mixed bag; we may not agree on everything — but we are an authentic community of love when we transcend our differences by love and will.
