PASTORAL LONGEVITY
One of the deterrents proposed by church growth consultants to church growth is the short duration of pastors. Strong pastoral leadership is typically seen in growing churches. Few churches continue to find substantial increase with out a central figure or figures who cast the vision and lead the way. C. Peter Wagner contrasts this phenomenon with other professional careers: “Lawyers and physicians do not usually plan on changing their residence every three to seven years. But many pastors now do.” Taken from “The Cost of Church Growth,” by C. Peter Wagner, from The Pastor’s Church Growth Handbook, Volume 2, edited by Win Arn, published by Church Growth Press, Pasadena, California, 1982, pg. 85 ($7.99)
