NATIVE AMERICAN CHRISTIANS
Not too long ago, denominational leadership from one denomination came out with a paper on “New Methodologies on Reaching Native Americans.” When Native leaders made inquiry as to who developed this paper and who was included in their research, they found out, much to their dismay but not to their surprise, that this entire document was compiled without any Native person’s involvement. It was written exclusively by Anglo leadership, and the people they contacted in their research for this document were all non- Indian leaders of other denominations and mission organizations. Not one single Native person was interviewed, nor were any Native person’s views included in a powerful document that was going to provide the new and “more effective” philosophy of ministry that this denomination was to engage in as it worked among Native Americans! No wonder why Native people continue to feel that the gospel is the “Whiteman’s Gospel!” Can we really blame them? . . . We (Native Americans)…
