AN UNFRIENDLY TEAM
The 1992 Winter Olympics saw many changes in the traditional national teams. For the first time Lituania and other Eastern Block countries had independent representation. There no longer was a Soviet team, but rather a “Unified” team comprised of the republics that formed the new Russian Federation. Another noticeable change was a united German team. No longer were there two competing teams from East and West Germany; now there was one German team. However, as the CBS reporters asked the members of the German team how they reacted to the united East and West German team, the common sentiment was this: They were teammates, but not friends. Unfortunately, this same sentiment can be found in many of our local churches. We are bound together in a local assembly, working toward the same goal. Yet all too often there is a lack of love, fellowship, and unity in the body. We’re teammates, but we’re not friends.
