TOUGH COURAGE THAT MAKES FEW FRIENDS
In 1981 I was attending Bible Col1ege in Houston, Texas in order to prepare for the ministry. That year I was employed by Fleming Foods, a large grocer supply house in Houston. I had always heard about other employees who stole food and ate it on the job. In fact, the first day at work one worker smashed the glass of a vending machine to steal a candy bar, right in front of everyone. No one said anything to him except for me. Later this man verbally assaulted me with great anger. So from that time on I struggled inwardly with what should be the proper response when we witness a crime. I forgave the man and just tried to love him and the rest of the men for Christ. Their stealing puzzled me. The company paid well, $7.00 an hour and some were making over $14.00 an hour.
