AN ORDINARY WOMAN
Here is another illustration concerning Rosa Parks. We ran an illustration in the July, 1991 issue of The Pastor’s Story File in which Alaskan Governor Jay S. Hammond gave her a tribute. For more information see this issue: “STAND FOR FREEDOM.” Rosa Parks was an ordinary working woman, a seamstress in a Montgomery, Alabama department store. On December 1, 1955, she stepped onto her usual bus to go home and stepped into history as one of the catalysts for the burgeoning civil rights movement. That day when Ms. Parks boarded her bus, the black section in the back was full. The middle section, available to blacks as long as no whites needed seats, still had one vacancy. Parks sat down. Three stops later some whites got on, enough to fill all of the remaining vacant seats and still have one white man left standing.
