SPUR OF THE MOMENT WEDDINGS
The phone rang on Tuesday morning. The call was from a young woman who didn’t identify herself. She simply stated that she wanted to be married on Friday of that week. This was to be for her, the sixth time she had been married. Not wanting to sound rude, I said that I did not do “spur-of-the-moment weddings.” I told her I like to counsel with the couple before the wedding. She sounded somewhat irritated by my response. After a pause, she continued, “Well, I’ll find someone else to perform the ceremony, but I want you to know something: I believe you are wrong about ‘spur-of-the-moment weddings.’ Some of my BEST marriages have been ‘spur-of-the-moment.'” I just had to laugh!
