The recently released movie City of Joy tells the story of a young, disillusioned doctor Max, played by Patrick Swayze, who goes on a worldwide journey to “find himself” and discover new direction for his life. Through a series of circumstances — including being robbed and having his passport and money stolen — he finds himself stranded in Calcutta, India. He crosses paths with a woman, whom he refers to as Saint Joan, who has come to Calcutta on a mission of mercy. She runs a clinic that offers medical care to the poorest of the poor in an area of the city and has found purpose and meaning in her task. Max ends up somewhat involved with the clinic, but at one point is ready to pack it in and move on. In a dramatic moment, Saint Joan shares with him what she has discovered.
