THE RIGHT TIME TO FLY
Some years ago several friends and I had the opportunity to visit Death Valley. On the final day of our visit we hiked Wildrose Peak – a mountain rising nearly 9000 feet above the valley floor. While looking over the panoramic view below us, we noticed something near the valley floor. A telephoto lens showed us that there were a number of hawks flying with gentle flapping motions. Suddenly there was a change. Catching one of the warm air currents rising off the valley floor, they stopped flapping their wings, and within minutes they had risen to where they were several thousand feet over our heads. Those hawks could have flapped and flapped their way to that height, but they didn’t need to, for they had caught a thermal! The prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 40:31) has given us a good visual picture. We seem to struggle and put out so much effort and never seem to get anywhere. But…
