FOURTH PLACE — ONE WITH GESTURES
The story that was awarded fourth place is one that is best seen told rather than reading it. I heard (and saw) it told just this last winter at a Pastor’s Conference at Mt. Hermon. It is important to get the gestures right or else the story doesn’t work well. It was submitted to us by Del Keeney, Pastor of the Mount Vernon Church of the Brethren of Waynesboro, Virginia. He says he also heard it at a retreat for ministers. It’s a bit complicated and long, but it is a great story on ways we misunderstand where people are coming from and thereby fail to communicate. It’s a gem and it goes this way: This story takes place in Medieval Italy. It seems that the good Christian merchants of Rome were losing business to the Jewish merchants.
