THE SICKNESS WAS SWALLOWED
A medical missionary, serving in Egypt, was distressed that the people he served and had grown to love were suffering from a strange anemia. Medical efforts to relieve the suffering and cure the disease had made no difference. One day, he learned that the disease came from a liver fluke found in the soil near the people’s water supply. Having isolated the culprit, he planned to return to John Hopkins Medical School in America where research could be performed in the hopes of developing a cure. Immigration authorities stopped him as he sought to enter our nation. “No way! Under no circumstances are you going to bring diseased liver flukes into our country.” He pleaded, but to no avail. He had to decide – either destroy the liver flukes or leave the country. He went to the men’s restroom to flush the flukes into the sewer. He took the top off of the container and prepared to empty it down…
