HELPING HER KNOW SHE IS LOVED
There is a beautiful story that comes out of the Eastern Orthodox tradition of the Christian church about a priest named Father Demetrius. Father Demetrius was a good and strong man who had been given a special gift of the Holy Spirit for teaching people how to respond to God’s love. He did it by his own example of responding in love to his people’s needs. One day, a tragic riot occurred in his city, causing extensive property damage and hurting many people. One family in Father Demetrius’ parish lost everything they owned: their home, their business, their furniture, clothing — everything. Friends and relatives provided what assistance they could but it really didn’t replace all they had lost. And so Father Demetrius volunteered to help. He took the youngest daughter of the family shopping. She needed shoes, stockings, a dress, a coat. And these Father Demetrius bought for her. Then, with what little remaining money he had,…
