PLUMS AND SLUMS
When picking plums recently, I focused my attention on the large, juicy plums near the top of the tree. I reached and strained to gather in the plump plums on the tree. Later, I discovered to my surprise that some of the plums on the ground were more ripe and juicy than those on the tree. I just needed to reach down, pick them up, and wipe them off. As ambassadors of Jesus Christ, we must remember that the Gospel is for all: for those on top of the social and economic ladder and also for those on the bottom. Some of the most talented people in society are on the “ground” in slums, ghettos, projects, and inner cities. They just need to be picked up and cleaned off!
