NO FEAR OF JUDGMENT
Look at our heroes, what we spend our money on, what we watch on TV — that’s what we value. The problem is, changing things is a problem. It’s not a question of hoeing at the weeds on the surface of society, but of a real root job. The fact is, we all have a pretty good idea of what is right and what is wrong, but deprived — as the twentieth century is — of the ever-handy threat of Judgment Day, we just can’t seem to find a good enough explanation for why we should do one thing and not do another. Simply saying “Because God says so” doesn’t work very well anymore. From “What Are Our Real Values?” by Nicols Fox, Newsweek, February 13, 1989
