KNOCKING FROM THE TRUNK
Gladys Thornapple, the Born Loser’s wife, is driving along in the car and begins hearing a knocking sound. She pulls into a service station and speaks to the attendant: “I keep hearing a knocking sound while I’m driving. Will you please check my engine?” The attendant looks under the hood. All this time the knocking is still going on. After checking out the engine, he walks up to Gladys and says: “It appears to be coming from your trunk.” Embarrassed, Gladys says, “Oh for heaven’s sake. BRUTUS! ARE YOU IN THERE?” From “The Born Loser,” by Art & Chip Sansom, April 12, 1992
