Gordon MacDonald, who resigned as president of Inter- Varsity Christian Fellowship two years ago after confessing to an adulterous relationship, became pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Manhattan in April. He had completed a discipline process under the guidance of several unnamed evangelical leaders and his former congregation, Grace Chapel, Lexington, Massachusetts, which recommissioned him to the ministry 13 months ago. Trinity, a Baptist General Conference congregation torn by a rift over leadership problems, tried to persuade MacDonald to come soon after he left IVCF, but MacDonald told the congregation he had no intention of ever returning to the pastorate, according to a Religious News Service account. “If you’re a broken person, then we’ve got a place for you, because we’re a congregation of broken people,” Trinity’s leaders told MacDonald.
