DEDICATED TO THE TASK
“You have to put your heart in the business and the business in your heart.” So goes the old maxim, no better exemplified than in the story of crusty James Gordon Bennett, who stalked into the office of his New York Herald at the same moment that a young copy boy dashed around a corner. The collision sent Bennett sprawling on the floor. “Young man,” he roared, “what in blazes do you think you’re doing!” The kid stammered: “I was just running an errand, sir.” Bennett put his hand in his pocket, flipped him a quarter and snapped: “Well, that’s the way to run ’em!” Edward Blier All of the above were from Leadership, by William Safir and Leonard Safir, Simon and Schuster, New York, 1990
