ENLISTED SKYDIVING AMPUTEE SFC
Dana Bowman was a member of the US Army Parachute Team, the Golden Knights. In 1994 he lost both legs in a tragic skydiving accident. He and a friend collided in the air while traveling at approximately 150 mph. His friend was killed in the accident. Since that time SFC Bowman has turned tragedy into triumph. Nine months after the accident he became the first double amputee to re-enlist in the US Army. he skydived into the re-enlistment ceremony. Throughout his ordeal, SFC Bowman refused to dwell on the misfortunes life had dealt him. “I had to deal with losing my legs, losing my best friend, and losing my wife who left me after the accident.” Instead of giving up, he chose to persevere. Of his situation, Bowman says, “My accident made me a stronger individual. If you refuse to quit, you can do anything.
