From an article, “Reflection on Moltmann,” George Laird Hunt writes: “Moltmann is working on a theology of ecology and believes the root of the (ecological) crisis is the will to dominate, and that this desire derives theologically from the concept among Christians of a dominating God. Humans, seeing themselves in the image of this dominating God, thought they were meant to dominate nature. What we must do is reorient our image of God by rediscovering the origin of our Trinitarian God… Our God is a communal God rich in relationships. When we think of God in this way, we learn that God expresses the divine nature not through domination but through community. The Earth is not only God’s property; it is also God’s presence. The Sabbath, he suggests, is wise environmental politics.
