SAVED BY HIS FAITH
The sheriff and deputy of Jones county (the free state of Jones) were abducted while transporting two inmates from Parchman. Everyone thought they were dead when the inmates shot a police officer in Tuscaloosa Alabama when the officer stopped the car because of a missing bumper. The sheriff and deputy were found in a barn near Florence, Mississippi the next day. The two officers were handcuffed to poles and gagged. They had been pistol whipped but didn’t seem to have serious injuries. The sheriff and his deputy would most likely be dead if not for the sheriff’s response to his abductors concerning his deputy. As the inmates continued to beat the man and were preparing to kill him, the sheriff told them to “leave the old man alone because he was seventy years old and sick.” The sheriff told the men that if they were going to kill him, to let him have a minute to make peace with God.…
