NO REAL SUPERMAN
The world was shocked when Superman fell off his horse, suffering a severe accident with severe injuries to his spinal column, paralyzing him from the neck down. For a long while, he lay in a hospital bed in New Jersey, receiving physical therapy. He is now in a wheel chair. He’ll probably never be the same again. Superman is supposed to be invulnerable to serious injury and death — indestructible, invincible! How could this happen to Superman? I’m talking of course about Christopher Reeve, the actor. He isn’t really Superman, but a lot of people thought of him that way because he played the role of Superman in a number of blockbuster movies. There is no real Superman to whom no harm can come. There is no one who is indestructible. We’re all vulnerable to illness and accidents and criminal assault and everything else on earth that plagues human safety and life.
