A TIME FOR HOPE
Tristan Bernard was a French dramatist and novelist who lived from 1866 to 1947. Bernard and his wife were interned by the Gestapo during World War II. When arrested, Bernard told his wife, “The time of fear is over, now comes the time of hope.” Bernard survived his ordeal in a concentration camp whereas other members of his family did not make it. Adapted from The Little, Brown Book of Anecdotes, Clifton Fadiman, ed.
