THE GREAT ESCAPE
One of the great escapes Houdini made took place in Moscow. It was from the Carette – a six foot square steel cube with only an eight inch square barred window and solid steel door. Its key was kept in Siberia 2000 miles away. If Houdini could not get out, he promised to make the trip in the cube to Siberia. He was stripped naked and carefully searched for any picklocks. He was chained and handcuffed – pushed into the cube and the door locked and sealed shut! It was pushed up against a wall in a prison yard with the door facing the wall. Twenty minutes later a sweating Houdini walked out from behind the cell! The police rushed to examine the Carette. They found the seal on the door completely intact and the handcuffs and chains were still locked on Houdini. No one ever figured out how he did it. One prison he never escaped from was death. On…
