AN ARTISTIC NAME
Mark Kostabi, a New York painter doesn’t actually paint very many of “his” own paintings. He hires someone to do the painting for him, and he even hires someone to come up with the ideas. All he does is sign his name at the bottom. the paintings reportedly sell for upwards of $10,000. “Only a fool would buy a Kostabi,” he has said, adding that this statement is part of his shtick. Obviously he is both parodying and exploiting a society in which value is a function of publicity rather than the other way around.
