DO-IT-MYSELF CHRISTIAN
A couple of weeks ago, our three-year-old grandson Drew went with his parents to a church party at a home with a swimming pool. Drew sat by the water’s edge watching the older kids in the water and talking to some of them. His father and mother took turns holding on to him.They sat with him or stood by him, and they held onto his shirt, so he would not lean over too far and fall into the pool. After a while this parental restraint began to bother Drew, so he took hold of his shirt and informed his parents that he could do it himself. Do you get the picture? He is sitting by the pool holding on to his own shirt, restraining himself so he won’t fall into the pool. This is a great picture of how we act. We say to God, “Don’t hold on so tightly! I can manage. I will hold onto myself! I will save myself!…
