HOW FAITH WORKS
Professor George Forell of the University of Iowa never ceases to remind those to whom he speaks and writes that telling a person to have faith is like commanding an insomniac to go to sleep. The harder an insomniac tries to sleep, the more elusive sleep becomes. Faith cannot be commanded any more than sleep. We speaking of “falling asleep”; it is a passive act. Sleep comes as we let go and cease struggling. Faith is created within us when God shows his faithfulness to us. From Amazing Grace: Six Studies in Galatians, Keith E. Krebs, #3, “Double-Minded.”
