BATTERED EXPECTATIONS
In his book Dying for Change, Leith Anderson says, “Depression has increased tenfold in the last two decades as people struggle to cope with the disappointment of unmet expectations. Not the least of these disappointments is the boomers’ failure to meet their own expectations. They have found themselves in a highly competitive world with 77,000,000 others vying for the same jobs, houses, and money. Many peaked early in their careers and have nowhere else to go.” Is this one of the many reasons that people in this age range are looking for congregations that provide opportunities for personal spiritual growth? Does this help them to combat the depression that “battered expectations” so often produce? Taken from Net Results, May 1991, page 9
